Submit FAQ

Uploading a Codex pet for the first time? Start with the pet package guide.

What files should I upload?+

Upload a folder or ZIP that contains pet.json and spritesheet.webp or spritesheet.png. If you upload a folder, Codex Pet builds the ZIP for you before submission.

Should I choose a folder or a ZIP?+

Use Pick folder if your pet is already in a local folder. Use Pick zip if you already packaged it. Both paths must include the same two core files.

What spritesheet size is expected?+

The recommended spritesheet is 1536 x 1872, arranged as 8 columns and 9 animation rows. Smaller sheets may still be readable, but very small images are rejected.

What does pet.json need to include?+

At minimum, pet.json should identify the pet with a name or id. Description, kind, tags, and vibes are helpful because they become the gallery text and filters.

Why does the page preview my pet before upload?+

The preview confirms that the spritesheet can be read, checks its dimensions, extracts basic metadata, and creates a visual fingerprint used to catch duplicate submissions.

What happens after I click Submit for review?+

Codex Pet uploads pet.json, the spritesheet, and the ZIP, then checks file hashes, package structure, unsafe ZIP paths, duplicates, and basic asset quality before approving or holding the pet.

Why might a submission be rejected or held?+

Common reasons include missing files, unreadable JSON, a broken spritesheet, an unsafe ZIP path, a duplicate asset, or artwork that needs manual review before it can appear publicly.

Can I upload fan art or character-inspired pets?+

Only upload artwork you created, have permission to share, or are allowed to distribute. Rights holders can request removal through the takedown process.

Can I edit a pet after submitting it?+

Yes. Open My pets after signing in to track the review status and update the display name, description, tags, or vibes. Replacing the actual files requires a new submission.

When can other users install my pet?+

Once approved, the pet appears in the gallery and manifest. Other users can install it with the command on the pet page or download the ZIP manually.
